The Lake City Tigers boys basketball team held its season banquet on Monday, April 5.
Freshman coach Lukas Brott recapped the season for the Tigers freshman team, which finished with a 17-7 mark overall and 8-4 in conference play. The squad finished the year strong, winning six of its final seven games.
Coach Leo Fausch then recapped the season for the Tigers junior varsity team, which finished with a 16-8 overall mark and an outstanding 11-1 conference record. Highlights of the season included a six overtime thriller with Kasson-Mantorville and a 6-0 record in the month of January. Coach Fausch reached a historic milestone this season, collecting his 500th career win in the Tigers 65-62 overtime triumph over Goodhue in February.
The varsity squad captured the Sub-Section 1AA West Championship and was the Section 1AA runner-up with an overall record of 18-10. The team finished fourth in Minnesota Class AA, allowing 47.2 points per game to opponents. The Tigers players also had numerous individual accomplishments this season.
Joe Beck was named the Tigers offensive MVP, as he finished the season with 426 points (15.8 ppg) and 355 rebounds (13.1 rpg). He also led the team in blocked shots, with 101. Joe also was third on the team in assists (62) and steals (22). Additionally, Joe was recently named to the Associated Press All-State Honorable mention team and was selected to the Republican-Eagle All-Area First team.
Joe has been selected to play in the Tri-State All Star Series on Sunday, April 11 at Luther College in Decorah, Iowa. Team Minnesota will play team Wisconsin at 1 p.m., followed by a game against team Iowa at 2:30 p.m. Tickets will be available at the door.
Kurt Brown and Doug Pflaum shared the Mr. Hustle award. Brown was also named the defensive player of the year. Kurt averaged 4.9 points per game and also averaged 3.1 rebounds per game.
The most improved player award was presented to Cody Anderson. Cody finished the season averaging 3.7 points and 1.9 rebounds per game. Most notably, he came up with some big baskets in the Tigers playoff wins over Zumbrota-Mazeppa and Byron.
The sixth man award was presented to Kerby Rigelman. Rigelman averaged 3.2 points and 2.8 rebounds per game in his senior season. Alex Pyle was fourth on the team in scoring (6.2 ppg) and led the team in both assists (72) and steals (36).
Juniors Nick Bobb and Marcus Jacobson were named to the Republican-Eagle All-Area Honorable mention squad. Bobb was second on the team in scoring (8.6 ppg), rebounding (7.3 rpg) and blocks (1.0 bpg). Jacobson was third on the team in scoring (7.9 ppg), and was second in assists (65) and steals (34).

Summer basketball camp will be held for grades 1-4 June 8-11. Camp for grades 5-10 will be held June 15-18. More details will be available in the Summer Recreation brochure.
