Game 25
(7) Lake City (7-17) vs. (6) Dover-Eyota(11-16)

Date: Tuesday, March 11

The Lake City Tigers will continue the 2008 Section 1AA playoffs against Three Rivers Conference foe Dover-Eyota on Tuesday evening at the Mayo Civic Arena. The Tigers and Eagles will square off for the first time in 17 years. Both teams are coming off upset victories in the first round of tournament play. The Tigers stunned second-seeded Rochester Lourdes 49-35, while the Eagles came from behind to knock off Pine Island 42-39. In the all-time series against Dover-Eyota, Lake City owns a 3-0 record. All three clashes have occurred at Mayo Civic in the playoffs.

Lake City notes: In undoubtedly their biggest win of the year, the Tigers notched a 49-35 victory over Rochester Lourdes in the opening round of playoff action. The Tigers look to be peaking at the right time, as they knocked down 50% of their field goal attempts and also converted 17 of 24 free throws. Junior Austin Gilles dominated the game with a 25 point, 12 rebound performance. Indy Liljevall added a career-high eight points, while Jordan Schumacher and Joe Klennert added six each. Lake City held a 26-16 edge on the glass in the game. The Tigers are now 7-0 on the season when holding opponents to 40 points or less.

Dover-Eyota notes: The Eagles, under the direction of Chris Matejka, enter this contest with an 11-16 mark on the season. Dover-Eyota finished Three Rivers Conference play with an 8-12 record. Senior Matt Biehn is the go-to player for the Eagles. In February, he eclipsed the 1,000 point scoring mark in his career. Biehn netted 13 points in the Eagles’ quarterfinal win over Pine Island. Brock Sanden added nine points. Aaron Daniels and Evan Schmidt added eight points a piece. Dover-Eyota committed only six team fouls in the game.

Historical notes: In the opening round of the 1976 playoffs, Lake City defeated Dover-Eyota 63-41. Mark Dunbar paced the Tigers with 22 points, while Mark Kennedy added 12 points. In 1982, Lake City notched a 65-52 victory over the Eagles. Jeff Munneke netted 24 points and Marc Augustine poured in 20 points to lead the Tigers attack. Dave Hinck was also in double-figures with 11 points. In the most recent meeting, in 1991, Lake City won 50-35 to open up the playoffs. Chris Krueger scored 20 points, Matt Eppen added 14, and Brock Lortscher added 11 as the trio combined to provide the bulk of the damage.

What's ahead: The winner will face either top-seeded Stewartville or fourth-seeded Kingsland in the West-Sub Section Championship Saturday at 8:30 p.m. in the Mayo Civic Auditorium.

Game 24
(7) Lake City (6-17) vs. (2) Rochester Lourdes (16-9)

Date: Saturday, March 8

The Lake City Tigers will make their first appearance at Mayo Civic Auditorium since 2003 as they open Section 1AA playoff action against Rochester Lourdes. Lourdes holds the edge in the all-time series 29-22. The teams have battled eight times in the post season, with each squad notching four victories.

Lake City notes: The Tigers are coming off a disappointing 56-54 loss to Kasson-Mantorville last week. Lake City led by four points with just under two minutes remaining, but two costly turnovers enabled the KoMets to steal the win. Lake City was led by Drew Swanson, who scored 17 points. Austin Gilles added a double-double with 10 points and 13 rebounds for the Tigers.

Rochester Lourdes notes: The Eagles enter the tournament having won four of their past six contests. The go-to man is Tom Gores, who broke the all-time scoring record at Lourdes with a 31 point effort in 62-57 loss to La Crescent last Thursday. Gores averages a shade under 20 points per game. Lourdes will be without the services of two players that played in the December match-up, Michael Glassenapp and Rob Poterucha, as both suffered injures.

At Mayo Civic: The Tigers are anxiously waiting to return to Mayo Civic, a venue that has provided many fond memories over the years. The Tigers have notched 4 section championships in addition to 17 Sub-Section or District Championships in the venue. Overall, since 1970, the Tigers have posted a 56-25 mark at Mayo Civic. The last time Lake City played in the Mayo Civic Auditorium, in 2003, it claimed the East Sub-Section Championship by upsetting Winona Cotter 64-51 in Double Overtime.

Last Playoff Meeting: 3/8/96 Lake City 51 Rochester Lourdes 44
Lance Meincke and Dan Thompson scored 16 points each as the Tigers avenged two earlier losses to Lourdes by claiming the Sub-Section Championship game 51-44.

What's ahead: The winner will face either third-seeded Pine Island or sixth-seeded Dover-Eyota in the West-Sub Section Semifinals Tuesday at 8:00 p.m. in the Mayo Civic Arena.

Game 23
Lake City (6-16) @ Kasson-Mantorville (4-19)

Date: Thursday, February 28

The Lake City Tigers will open close out the regular season campaign at Kasson-Mantorville on Thursday evening. The Tigers and the KoMets have a lengthy history, with the Tigers enjoying a 47-21 mark in the series, and a 20-15 mark in games played in Kasson.

Lake City notes: The Tigers are seeking to rebound after a disappointing home court finale in which they unraveled against Byron last Friday. Playing perhaps their best half of basketball the entire season, the Tigers charged with intensity and emotion claimed a 26-18 halftime edge. Lake City went cold from the field and committed four turnovers to start the second half, allowing Byron to go on an 11-0 run to take the lead. Austin Gilles tied the game at 33 with 11:15 remaining, but the Bears went on a decisive 9-0 run and Lake City never got closer than six points the rest of the way. Gilles led the Tigers with 13 points. Lake City committed 11 of its 16 turnovers in the second half

Kasson-Mantorville notes: The KoMets have struggled this season, going 0-12 in HVL Gold Division play. The KoMets did upset Pine Island 52-49 in December. Chris Paradise leads the KoMets, averaging 8.6 points per game. R.T. Vrieze checks in at 7.6 points per game. In their last bit of action Tuesday night, the KoMets dropped a non-conference decision to Blue Earth Area, 49-40.

The Tigers jumped out to a 28-16 lead at halftime, before the KoMets staged a rally in the second half, tying the game at 43 with seven minutes to play. The Tigers slammed the door shut with an 11-2 run over the next five minutes. Austin Gilles had 16 points and six rebounds to pace Lake City. Josh Roach recorded a double-double with 14 points and 10 rebounds. The Tigers controlled the glass by a count of 48-25.

What's ahead: Lake City will open the Section 1AA West Sub-Section tournament against longtime rival Rochester Lourdes on Saturday, March 8 at 6:30 p.m. in the Mayo Civic Auditorium.

Game 22
Byron (12-10) @ Lake City (6-15)

Date: Friday, February 22

The Lake City Tigers will host the Byron Bears in the home finale of the 2007-08 season. It is parents’ night as well as senior night for seven Tigers players: Jordan Schumacher, Indy Liljevall, Joe Klennert, Ben Krehbiel, Josh Roach, James Schmidt, and Alex Wallerich. Lake City leads the all-time series 25-6 and is 11-3 at home against Byron.

Lake City notes: The Tigers rallied from a 20 point second half deficit last Friday at Triton with a barrage of three-pointers but could not get any closer than five points. Austin Gilles had 16 points to lead the Tigers, and Travis Heitman chipped in 11 points. With a victory, the Tigers would finish the season with a 5-5 mark at home.

Byron notes: The Bears, under the direction of Kerry Linbo were tabbed as one of the early pre-season favorites to contend for the Gold division title, but a slow start hindered the Bears chances. Byron had an impressive 77-61 victory over Winona Cotter last night. Brandon Milde scored 37 points, had 15 rebounds and dished out six assists in a career performance. Another player to watch is Darwin Olson inside. Olson averages just over 10 points per contest and led the HVL in rebounding this season.

In our last meeting:1/30/07 Lake City 58 @ Byron 72
The Tigers dug themselves an early hole in the first half and never recovered. Byron led 38-23 at intermission. Lake City was led by Nick Moyer with 15 points. The Tigers made a season-high nine three-pointers in the game. Brandon Milde led the Bears with 18 points, six rebounds and six assists.

Notable performances in Tigers History against Byron: Randy Breuer netted 27 points in a second-round 74-31 Tigers romp in the 1979 playoffs. Scott Krohn scored 23 points in a 50-36 win in 1988. Chris Krueger scored 20 points in a 41-33 win in 1992. Lance Meincke scored a career-high 35 points in a 60-43 win that gave Lake City the Kasson-Mantorville Holiday Tournament Championship in 1993. Troy Schlicker scored 28 points in a 64-58 win in 1998.

What's ahead: Lake City will find out its playoff opponent on Wednesday night, and then close out the regular season at Kasson-Mantorville on Thursday evening.

Game 21
Lake City (6-14, 4-7) @ Triton (13-5, 5-5)

Date: Friday, February 15

The Lake City Tigers will be in search of back-to-back wins on Friday night as they travel to Triton to take on the Cobras. This will be the 36th all-time encounter on the hardwood between the two schools, with Lake City holding a commanding 31-4 edge in the series. The Tigers have posted a 12-2 ledger all time in games played at Triton. The Cobras are looking to sweep the season series for the first time with a victory.

Lake City notes: The Tigers routed Kenyon-Wanamingo on Tuesday evening 57-32 in front of the home fans. Josh Roach and Drew Swanson each scored 11 points to pace the Tigers offensively. Austin Gilles added eight points and nine rebounds. Lake City finished just 15 of 27 at the charity stripe, but held a commanding 41-20 edge on the glass. The Tigers are 1-4 this year on the road in HVL Blue Division contests.

Triton notes: The Cobras also enter this contest having won in their previous outing. Triton dismantled Grand Meadow 91-56 on Monday evening. Garrett Schaeffer scored 26 points to pace the Cobras. Schaeffer leads Triton with a 16.5 scoring average and also rips down 7.8 rebounds per game. Chace Sackett averages 12.8 points per game. Damon Andrews is averaging 11.7 points and 9.9 rebounds a game. All five of Triton’s loses have come during HVL Blue Division play.

Triton 76 @ Lake City 67
The Cobras led 25-9 at one point in the first half, but only 30-22 at halftime. Lake City got within two points on two different occasions, but couldn’t make enough stops down the stretch. Chace Sackett scored 19 points and had nine rebounds, while Damon Andrews netted 16 points and grabbed nine rebounds for the visitors. The Tigers were paced by a career-high 19 points from Josh Roach. Joe Klennert had 11 points and Jordan Schumacher scored seven points and dished out six assists.

Notable performances in Tigers History against Triton: Brock Lortscher scored 24 points in the first ever meeting between the squads, a 56-49 Tigers triumph in 1991. Lortscher added 21 points in the playoff match up that year, which yielded a 42-41 Tigers victory. Brian Ahrens scored 23 points in a 50-33 victory in the K-M Holiday Tournament in 1992. Lance Meincke scored 28 points in a 50-37 Tigers win as they swept the HVL season series for the first time in 1994. Meincke poured in a season-high 34 points in a 62-38 rout in 1996. Matt Heitman scored a career-high 21 points as the Tigers won 57-31 in the 1997 home opener. Aaron Hoyer netted a career-high 37 points in a 60-41 win in 1999. Zach Borgschatz scored 20 points and Joe Siebenaler added 19 in a thrilling 69-68 overtime victory in 2000. Josh Oeltjen scored 19 points as the Tigers won the 2001 home opener 46-44. The Tigers allowed only one point to the Cobras in the second and third quarters in a 2003, en route to a 55-9 romp. Quinn Sweeney scored 20 points, while Eric Gosse and Riley Koller added 15 apiece as the Tigers rolled to a 69-49 win in 2005.

What's ahead: Lake City will have an off night Tuesday, before hosting Byron in the final home game of the season. It will be Senior night and Parent’s night for the Tigers.

Game 20
Kenyon-Wanamingo (2-15, 1-8) @ Lake City (5-14, 3-7)

Date: Tuesday, February 12

Lake City will be looking to end a four game losing skid when they play host to Kenyon-Wanamingo on Tuesday evening. Lake City now leads the all-time series 40-22 and is 20-7 at home against the Knights. Lake City will be looking to sweep the season series for the seventh time under the HVL Blue Division format.

Lake City notes: The Tigers played a solid game, but fell 67-54 to a powerful Faribault B.A. squad on Saturday evening. Austin Gilles led the Tigers with 16 points and nine rebounds before fouling out of the game with five minutes to play. Josh Roach added eight points for Lake City. Tonight will be the final HVL Blue Division home game of the season for the Tigers. Senior night activities will be next Friday when the Tigers play host to Byron.

Kenyon-Wanamingo notes:The Knights have struggled this season, ending a 27 game losing streak dating back to last year when they defeated Zumbrota-Mazeppa in January. They have also defeated Randolph, 48-42. Evan Hiner is leading the Knights offensively this season, averaging 14.2 points per game. Ben Fletcher averages 6.2 points per game.

Lake City 42 @ Kenyon-Wanamingo 33
Both teams struggled to get in an offensive rhythm, but a stout defensive effort allowed Lake City to collect the win. Austin Gilles and Drew Swanson paced the Tiger attack with 10 points apiece. Gilles added eight rebounds, and Swanson added five. Indy Liljevall played a great floor game, collecting six rebounds, dishing out four assists and swiping five steals away from the Knights. Lake City held a 34-24 edge on the glass, and forced the Knights into 18 turnovers.

Notable performances in Tigers History against Kenyon-Wanamingo: Randy Breuer scored 26 points and Mark Dunbar added 19 as the Tigers rolled to a 66-51 victory in 1977. After scoring a season-low six points in a 23-5 win in the 1979 season, Breuer poured in 26 points in a 64-37 win later that year in February. Lance Meincke netted 23 points in a 48-14 Tigers win in 1994. Meincke scored 30 points in the Tigers 52-30 win in the second match-up in 1994. Troy Schlicker scored 28 points in a 64-38 Tigers triumph in 1998. Aaron Hoyer hit a school-record 10 three pointers and scored 37 points, but it wasn’t enough as the Knights prevailed 67-62 in 1999. Zach Borgschatz scored 13 points and Austin Boe added 10 as the Tigers upset the 2001 state champion Knights 47-45. Quinn Sweeney had 20 points and 10 rebounds and Nolan Krause added 11 points in a 49-35 Tigers win in 2005.

What's ahead: The Tigers will hit the road on Friday to play Triton.

Game 19
Lake City (5-13) @ Faribault Bethlehem Academy (15-2)

Date: Saturday, February 9

The Lake City Tigers will look to rebound from last nights disappointing 59-54 setback at Zumbrota-Mazeppa when they travel to face Faribault Bethlehem Academy on Saturday afternoon at 2:30. This will be the first meeting between the squads in 14 years. Lake City leads the all-time series 6-5, and is 0-1 against the Cardinals in Faribault all-time. The Cardinals have won three straight games in the series and the Tigers have not won since 1990.

Lake City notes: The Tigers unraveled down the stretch Friday night, committing five turnovers to allow Zumbrota-Mazeppa to steal the 59-54 win. Drew Swanson had 23 points and 12 rebounds to pace the Tigers, while Jordan Schumacher added seven points. The Tigers will be looking for their first victory on the back end of a doubleheader. Earlier this season they lost to Goodhue 49-45 and St. Anthony 81-46 after playing a game the previous night.

Faribault B.A. notes:The Cardinals, under the direction of head coach Franz Boelter are a favorite to win the Section 1A crown this season and for good reason. They were ranked seventh in the Class A poll this week and currently sport a 15-2 record on the season. The Cardinals routed Randolph 71-34 on Friday night. The Cardinals are averaging 63.1 points per game on offense. One common opponent Faribault B.A. has played this season is Goodhue. The Cardinals dispatched the Wildcats 85-62 in January. A trio of underclassmen has paced the Cardinals all season long: juniors Chris Palmer and Drew Matthews and sophomore Jordan Clark. All three players can fill it up from anywhere on the court.

The Cardinals advanced to the state tournament with a thrilling one point victory over the Tigers in the 1994 Section 1A title game. Lance Meincke was held to just 12 points, well below his season average of 22 points per game. Jake Fick and Ben Halder each scored four points for the Tigers. Lake City ended the season with a 22-5 record.

Notable performances in Tigers History against Faribault B.A.: Scott Krohn scored 14 points as the Tigers won 40-23 in the opening game of the West Concord Holiday Tournament in 1986. Rod Banks scored 11 points one year later in 1987 as the Tigers captured the Tournament championship with a 44-35 victory. Lake City had four players in double figures when it captured the Tournament Championship again in 1989 with a 50-46 victory. Brent Meincke and Tony Heise each scored 11 points, while Brett Stolzenberg and Erik Sievers each had 10 points.

What's ahead: The Tigers will return home to face Kenyon-Wanamingo on Tuesday evening.

Game 18
Lake City (5-12, 3-6) @ Zumbrota-Mazeppa (2-14, 2-6)

Date: Friday, February 8

The Lake City Tigers will play a pair of weekend games for the second time this season. Friday the Tigers travel to Zumbrota to take on the Cougars. Lake City leads the all-time series 42-22 and is 9-7 all-time on the road against the Zumbrota-Mazeppa school. The Tigers, who have not won on the road against the Cougars since 2004, will be looking to sweep the season series for the ninth time.

Lake City notes: The Tigers fell short in heartbreaking fashion against Pine Island by a 51-50 margin on Tuesday evening at home. The Tigers trailed by as many as 13 points, but battled back to take a 50-49 on a three-point play by Austin Gilles with 1:16 remaining. Pine Island scored with 32 seconds left to re-take the lead. Lake City missed its’ final two shot attempts. Gilles led the Tigers with 17 points. It was the second time this season that the Tigers dropped a 51-50 decision on their home floor.

Zumbrota-Mazeppa notes: The Cougars have struggled in the HVL Blue Division this season, yet upset Triton 69-68 in December and beat Cannon Falls 60-50 early in January. Junior Drew Paukert is averaging 11.4 points per game to direct the Cougars offensively. Freshman Cody Lodermeier is averaging 9.4 points per game. The last time out, Zumbrota-Mazeppa dropped a 60-41 decision to Pine Island. The Cougars shot 1 for 14 from behind the arc in the game.

One month ago, Travis Bremer nailed a three-pointer to turn tide in the Tigers favor and give them a 21-20 lead at intermission. Lake City played well down the stretch, slamming the door shut with a 10-2 run. Drew Swanson recorded 16 points and eight rebounds. Joe Klennert had 13 points and eight steals. Austin Gilles recorded a double-double with 10 points and 10 rebounds.

Notable performances in Tigers History against Zumbrota-Mazeppa: : Randy Breuer’s favorite opponent may have been Zumbrota. He opened the 1979 state championship season with a 26 point effort in a 62-32 Tigers romp. In January, Breuer scored 33 points in a Tigers 79-56 triumph. Breuer posted a career-best 43 points in a 76-54 Tigers victory in the playoffs. Lance Meincke poured in 24 points in a 72-58 win in 1994 helping the Tigers sweep the first HVL season series between the squads. Aaron Hoyer netted 30 points in a 52-40 win in 1999 as the Tigers swept the season series. Ted Stam scored 14 points and Nolan Krause added 13 points as the Tigers clinched the HVL Blue Division with a 53-44 win in 2004. Alex Borgschatz nailed two free throws with 1.6 seconds remaining and Quinn Sweeney scored 15 points and grabbed 10 rebounds as the Tigers won 42-39 in 2005 to finish the conference season with a perfect 16-0 record.

What's ahead: Lake City will travel to face seventh-ranked Class A foe Faribault Bethlehem Academy at 2:30 p.m. on Saturday afternoon.

Game 17
Pine Island (9-7, 6-1) @ Lake City (5-11, 3-5)

Date: Tuesday, February 5

The Lake City Tigers will return home to face the Pine Island Panthers in an HVL Blue Division game. Lake City leads the all time series 26-6, and is 13-1 at home against the Panthers. Pine Island will be looking to record their second consecutive sweep of the season series.

Lake City notes: The Tigers dropped a 58-56 thriller in double overtime last Friday at Cannon Falls. Despite having the initial possession in each overtime period, the Tigers were unable to score. Lake City shot 17 for 18 at the charity stripe in regulation before misfiring on all three attempts in the overtime sessions. Joe Klennert led the Tigers with 15 points and Austin Gilles chipped in 13 points. It was the first overtime game of the season for the Tigers. The last time Lake City went to double overtime was in 2004, a 53-47 setback against Concordia Academy.

Pine Island notes: The Panthers are currently leading the Blue Division with a 6-1 mark in league play. Pine Island has won two straight games and five of their last six. In their last game the Panthers defeated Zumbrota-Mazeppa 60-41. Pine Island led 34-22 at intermission and didn’t look back. Deric Flom led the Panthers with 16 points and Jeremy McNamara added 10.

After Josh Roach gave the Tigers a 49-47 lead with six minutes remaining, the Panthers went on a decisive 8-0 run to slam the door. Lake City made things interesting by making some desperation three-pointers in the final 30 seconds, but the Panthers put the game away at the line. Joe Klennert had a career-high 20 points to lead the Tigers offensively. Austin Gilles had 13 points and Jordan Schumacher recorded seven points and 10 assists for Lake City. Jeremy McNamara led Pine Island with 24 points including a five of six shooting performance from long distance.

Last Tigers win: 2/14/06 Pine Island 52 @ Lake City 61
Lake City was able to overcome 24 turnovers by making 18 of 23 free throw attempts. Nick Moyer finished with 19 points and Stu Ekblad added 13 points including a perfect five for five at the charity stripe to lead the Tigers. Riley Koller had a double-double with 10 points and 10 rebounds.

Notable performances in Tigers History against Pine Island: Jim Tackmann poured in 27 points in a season ending 68-54 loss in 1973. In the inaugural HVL Blue contest in 1994, Lance Meincke scored 25 points in a 53-37 win. Meincke pumped in 31 points in a 59-50 win in 1995. Eric Goose scored 10 points including the game winning three-pointer at the buzzer in a 42-39 win in 2004.

What's ahead: Lake City will hit the road for a pair of weekend games. Friday the Tigers will travel to square off with rival Zumbrota-Mazeppa. On Saturday the Tigers will face off against Faribault Bethlehem Academy, with tip-off slated for 2:30 p.m.

Game 16
Lake City (5-10, 3-4) @ Cannon Falls (8-10, 4-3)

Date: Friday, February 1

The Lake City Tigers will hit the road to open the month of February, after finishing with a 3-6 record in the month of January. Tonight’s game will be pivotal in determining playoff seeding as well as the Tigers hopes to climb back into the HVL Blue Division race. Lake City leads the all-time series 53-18 and is 25-11 in games played at Cannon Falls since 1970.

Lake City notes: The Tigers posted a much needed victory by limiting the Goodhue Wildcats to just 29 points in a 10 point win a week ago. Austin Gilles led Lake City with a double-double performance: 11 points and 10 rebounds. Josh Roach also played well for the Tigers, collecting 10 points and six rebounds on the evening. The Tigers took advantage at the charity stripe, connecting on 14 of 20 attempts, compared to a two of six showing by the Wildcats. Lake City has won their last nine games dating back to 2006 when holding opponents under 40 points.

Cannon Falls notes: The Bombers halted a four game losing streak last Friday by defeating Zumbrota-Mazeppa 49-40 on their home floor. It was the Bombers first win in HVL Blue Division play since defeating Pine Island 63-60 back on January 11. Last night the Bombers dropped a 61-46 decision at Stewartville. Isaac Peterson had 12 points and Michael Bannitt added nine. The Tigers will need to slow down the Bombers three-point attack as Bannitt and Peterson can both lit up the scoreboard from long distance.

In our last meeting:12/18/07 Cannon Falls 51 @ Lake City 50
Cannon Falls recorded its’ first win in Lake City since 2002 thanks to the late game heroics of Ryan Underdahl. Underdahl scored on a put-back with three seconds remaining in the contest, and Lake City failed to get off a shot as the Bombers escaped with the win. It was the Isaac Peterson show in the first half, as he made five of six three-point attempts, but the Tigers held a slim 32-30 halftime lead. Both teams clamped down on defense in the second half, but it was Underdahl’s heroics that gave Cannon Falls the victory. Peterson finished with 24 points on six of seven shooting from long range to pace the Bombers. The Wildcats won their sixth straight game in the series three weeks ago when they prevailed 49-45 on their home floor. The Tigers now own a 13-10 (.565) ledger in the all-time series. This will mark the first time ever that there have been two meetings in the same season between the two squads.

Lake City notes: The Tigers dropped a 76-67 decision to the Triton Cobras Tuesday evening at home. Lake City trailed 25-9 early in the contest before battling back to get within 30-22 at halftime. The Tigers came within two points twice in the second half, but a decisive 9-0 run by Triton sealed the game. Josh Roach poured in a career-high 19 points to lead the Tigers. Lake City is 10-2 all-time on their home floor against Goodhue.

Goodhue notes: The Wildcats suffered their first loss in HVL Blue Division play Tuesday night, as they fell 72-59 to Pine Island at home. Dan McNamara had 20 points to lead Goodhue offensively. Brett Watson added 11 points and Kelby Buck scored nine. The Wildcats now sit at 8-6 overall on the season after opening with four losses.

Randy Breuer made a big splash in his debut in 1976, when he scored 28 points in the season opening 73-44 rout of the Wildcats. Lake City opened its 1990 State Championship season with a 67-56 win over Goodhue. Erik Sievers scored 17 points and Brock Lortscher and Brett Stolzenberg each added 14 points. The Lake City Tigers will play in front of the home fans for the first time in two weeks as they play host to the Triton Cobras. In the all-time series, Lake City holds a commanding 31-3 (.912) edge, including a 14-0 mark at home against Triton.

Lake City notes: The Tigers finished their four game road trip with a 1-3 mark. Lake City dropped a 63-59 decision on Friday to Pine Island, in a game that featured six lead changes and four ties. Joe Klennert poured in a career-high 20 points to lead the Tigers offensively. Austin Gilles added 13 points and nine rebounds. Jordan Schumacher had a great ball game, as he scored seven points and dished out 10 assists.

Triton notes: The Cobras were tabbed as one of the early preseason favorites to contend for the conference crown, but have been set back by three loses on their home floor in conference play. Triton lost by one point to Goodhue and Zumbrota-Mazeppa, and by three points to Pine Island. The Tigers will need to slow down the prolific offensive attack of the Cobras, as they average 66.1 points per game, headlined by four players averaging in double figures. Sophomore Garrett Schaefer leads Triton averaging 16.8 points per game and 8.4 rebounds per game. Senior Chace Sackett is averaging 13.4 points per contest. Junior Damon Andrews is averaging a double-double at 10.8 points and 10.0 rebounds per game. Coleton Thiemann is averaging 10.6 points per game.

Historical notes: In a streak that lasted from 1995 to 2004, Lake City won 21 consecutive contests against Triton, including a 55-9 win in 2003. Lake City led 15-4 after one quarter of play. The Cobras managed only one point in the second quarter and the Tigers took a 25-5 lead into halftime. Lake City pitched a shutout in the third quarter, while scoring 22 points to take a 47-5 lead into the final quarter. The Cobras shot just nine percent from the field in the game. Sterling Malcomson scored 12 points and Calin Koller added 11 for the Tigers who improved to 11-8 overall.

The Lake City Tigers will complete a four game road swing as they visit the Pine Island Panthers. In the all-time series, Lake City has posted a 26-5 (.839) mark, including an 11-3 record in Pine Island. The Panthers recorded their first ever sweep of the season series last year and also won in Lake City for the first time ever.

Lake City notes: The Tigers are coming off a hard fought 60-54 loss to Winona Cotter on Tuesday. Lake City trailed 57-43 with 1:50 left before rallying to get within five points. Jordan Schumacher tied a career-high with 15 points and Joe Klennert added 12 points and eight rebounds to lead the Tiger attack. Austin Gilles recorded a double-double with 11 points and 14 rebounds.

Pine Island notes: The Panthers, under the direction of Ryan Raabe, captured the Blue Division crown last season and upset Rochester Lourdes 47-45 in overtime in the HVL Championship game. Pine Island lost two all-conference players and returns just one starter off last year’s squad. Junior Jeremy McNamara leads the Panthers, as he averages 14.1 points per game. Deric Flom is averaging 10.3 points per game

In December, the Panthers notched their first ever win in Lake City by a 55-45 margin.

Lake City was able to overcome 24 turnovers by making 18 of 23 free throw attempts. Nick Moyer finished with 19 points and Stu Ekblad added 13 points including a perfect five for five at the charity stripe to lead the Tigers. Riley Koller had a double-double with 10 points and 10 rebounds.

Historical notes: Lake City has two winning streaks of 10 games or more against the Panthers. In a span from 1974 to 1999, the Tigers won 14 straight games. From 2000 to 2005, Lake City notched 11 straight victories against the Panthers. The streak included two wins by one point, one by two points and another by three points.

Two of southeastern Minnesota’s most storied programs will battle on Tuesday evening for the Skipper’s Cup, given to the winner of each regular season meeting between Lake City and Winona Cotter. This will be the 13th game in the Skipper’s Cup series, with Cotter holding a 7-5 advantage thus far. In the all-time series, Lake City maintains a 28-26 ledger (.518). The Tigers have faced the Ramblers in the playoffs more than any other opponent and hold an 8-5 edge in that series. The Tigers have won four straight games against Cotter in Rochester including a 64-51 upset victory in double overtime in the 2003 Sub-Section Championship game.

Lake City notes: The Tigers are looking to rebound after suffering an 81-46 setback against St. Anthony on Saturday night. Drew Swanson led the Tigers with 13 points and seven rebounds. Austin Gilles added eight points and seven rebounds. The Tigers enter this contest at the halfway mark of their regular season schedule. Lake City is averaging 50.1 points and 40 rebounds per game.

Winona Cotter notes: The Ramblers, led by Tom Zukowski are off to a 7-4 start this season. Earlier this season, Cotter nearly pulled off an upset in the Winona State Holiday Tournament, falling to third-ranked Maple River 81-80 in overtime. Patrick Bowlin is the Ramblers go-to player. The fourth year player surpassed the 1,000 point scoring mark earlier this season, and scored 26 of his game high 29 points in the second half and overtime in the loss to Maple River.

Eric Gosse’s three-point bomb at the end of the first quarter ignited the undefeated Tigers. Lake City held Cotter to just two points in the second quarter en route to a 26-14 halftime lead. The Tigers rattled off nine straight points to start the third quarter and the rout was on. Gosse and Quinn Sweeney scored 12 points to lead Lake City. Alex Borgschatz added 11 points and Nolan Krause netted 10 points and grabbed 10 rebounds.

The 1970's: The Tigers and the Ramblers dominated the basketball scene in the late 1970s. Cotter won the state championship in 1977, while Lake City won in 1978 and again in 1979. In the 1977 playoffs, Cotter defeated Lake City 40-39. Randy Breuer scored 20 points, but no other Tiger player was in double figures. In the very same game one year later, Lake City reversed the tables and defeated Cotter 43-42. Breuer led the way with 16 points and Pat Kennedy added 13. Earlier that season, Cotter prevailed 43-37. The Tigers also prevailed in the 1979 playoffs by a score of 32-27. Breuer paced Lake City with 11 points and Kennedy added eight as the Tigers marched on to their second consecutive state championship.

The Lake City Tigers will travel up to Minneapolis to play against the Saint Anthony Village Huskies in a non-conference contest. This is the second weekend in a row the Tigers are playing back-to-back games. This is the second meeting in the series between the two squads. St. Anthony won last year in the season opener at Lake City 80-46.

Lake City notes: The Tigers have won two games in a row, as they defeated winless Kenyon-Wanamingo 42-33 last night. Austin Gilles led the Tigers with 10 points and eight rebounds. Drew Swanson also netted 10 points. Indy Liljevall scored three points, and had four assists and five steals. Lake City improved to 3-0 when holding their opponents under 40 points.

St. Anthony Village notes:The Huskies, under the direction of Dave Bratland play in the Tri-Metro conference. The Huskies had an impressive 78-75 overtime win over Minneapolis North in the Bethel Holiday Tournament in December. Calvin Walker leads the Huskies, as he averages a lofty 27.0 points per game. Walker scored a season-high 41 points in the win over Minneapolis North.

The Lake City Tigers will hit the road this Friday, traveling to face the Kenyon-Wanamingo Knights. Since 1970, there have been 61 contests between the two squads, with the Tigers owning a 39-22 (.693) mark. The first meeting between Lake City and Kenyon-Wanamingo came in during the 1990-91 season. In the series against the merged Kenyon-Wanamingo school, Lake City holds a 20-13 (.606) edge, including a 10-6 mark in road games.

Lake City notes: The Tigers are coming off their first conference win of the season, as they defeated Zumbrota-Mazeppa 51-39 on Tuesday evening at home. Sophomore Drew Swanson led the Tigers with 16 points and eight rebounds. Joe Klennert scored 13 points, had eight steals and grabbed six rebounds. Lake City committed 22 turnovers in the game, with 14 coming in the first half. The Tigers improved to 2-0 on the season when holding opponents under 40 points.

Senior Evan Hiner is a player to keep an eye on for Kenyon-Wanamingo. Hiner is averaging 15.9 points per game. He posted a double-double with 17 points and 12 rebounds in the season opener against Blooming Prairie and also scored 14 points against Hayfield. The Knights are averaging just 42.3 points per game on offense, while allowing 59.5 points per game.

Historical notes: The Tigers handed the Knights one of three losses during their 2001 state championship season. Zack Borgschatz had 13 points and Austin Boe added 10 as the Tigers stunned the Knights 47-45 in Kenyon.

Getting defensive: The two lowest scoring games in Lake City franchise history have come against the Knights. In 1978, Lake City prevailed 17-12. Randy Breuer was held to a season low six points in the contest. His career low was three points in 1977. A year later in 1979, Lake City won 23-5. Only three players scored for the Tigers. Breuer scored 16 points, Pat Kennedy netted six, and Steve Haeska added a free throw.

Lake City and Zumbrota-Mazeppa are each looking to jumpstart their season after a slow start. This will be the 64th all time meeting in the series, with Lake City holding a 41-22 (.651) edge. At home, Lake City sports a 23-7 (.767) ledger against the Cougars.

Lake City notes: The Tigers fell to 0-2 in conference play, falling to Goodhue 49-45 on Friday night. The Tigers pulled within three points on two occasions late but couldn’t notch the victory. Leading the way for Lake City was Joe Klennert, who netted a career-high 17 points. Drew Swanson added nine points and nine rebounds for the Tigers. Lake City is averaging 51.5 points per game on offense. The Tigers are out-rebounding their opponents on average by 9.5 boards per game (41.5--32).

Zumbrota-Mazeppa notes: The Cougars have a new look this season, as longtime head coach Tim McAthie retired at the end of last season. Directing the squad this year is Darin Raasch. Zumbrota-Mazeppa is off to a 2-1 start in conference play, including a dramatic 69-68 victory over Triton. Drew Paukert hit the game-winning basket from the left baseline as time expired. Historical notes: Lake City compiled a 22-8 (.733) mark against Zumbrota High School, including an astounding 14-1 (.933) mark at home. The one and only meeting between Lake City and Mazeppa occurred during the 1971 playoffs. The Tigers prevailed 57-36. Mike Huettl scored 18 points and Terry Kieffer added 15 for Lake City. Lake City notes: The Tigers dropped a 59-47 non-conference decision to Ellsworth (Wis.) last evening. Austin Gilles led Lake City with 10 points and 11 rebounds. Jordan Schumacher and Joe Klennert netted eight points apiece. The Tigers will play on back-to-back nights for the first time this season. They will play back-to-back games on three occasions this season. The Tigers are 3-7 (.300) all time at Goodhue.

Goodhue notes: The Wildcats are 3-4 on the season, and are entering tonight’s contest on a three game winning streak. The Lake City Tigers will open the 2008 portion of their schedule against the Ellsworth (Wis.) Panthers. Lake City will begin a stretch where they will play five games in 10 days.

Lake City notes: The Tigers will look to build off a 38-32 win over Lewiston-Altura in the Winona State Holiday Tournament. Sophomore Drew Swanson scored 12 points to pace the Tiger attack. Lake City was out-rebounded (27-32) for only the second time this year. Lake City relied on its traditional stout defense to post the victory. The 32 points are the fewest allowed by the Tigers since a 42-29 win over Triton in 2006.

Ellsworth notes: The Panthers are currently sporting a 3-4 ledger for the 2007-08 season, but are riding a three game winning streak entering this contest. On December 20, Ellsworth defeated Amery (Wis.) 69-60. The Panthers knocked down nine of their 17 three-point attempts in the game. Derek Anderson led the way with 24 points on four of five shooting from three-point range along with seven rebounds. Aaron Nelson added 15 points.

Lewiston-Altura (4-3) vs. Lake City (1-4)

Date: Friday, December 28

The Lake City Tigers will finish out the 2007 Lewiston Auto Warrior Club Holiday Tournament against the Lewiston-Altura Cardinals. Game time is set for 3:45 p.m. in Talbot Gymnasium on the campus of Winona State University. Lake City owns an 11-6 record in the series since 1970. The teams have split in two prior meetings at Winona State (2002-03 and 2005-06). Seven encounters occurred in post season play, with the Tigers holding a 5-2 edge.

Lake City notes: The Tigers will look to rebound following a 70-63 setback on Wednesday against Onalaska Luther. Austin Gilles once again led the Tiger attack with 22 points and 10 rebounds. Sophomore Drew Swanson scored 17 points and snatched eight rebounds. Junior Elliot Grimley scored a career-high 11 points off the bench. Lake City is averaging 56.4 points per game on offense.

Lewiston-Altura notes: The Cardinals are led by Brian Menk, who is in his fourth season at the helm of the program. Menk has posted a 42-45 (.483) ledger to date with Lewiston-Altura. Spearheading the offense is Junior 6’6” center Michael Burfeind. In last night’s 74-68 loss to Onalaska Luther, Burfeind poured in a game high 25 points and grabbed 12 rebounds. Senior forward Bill Skaden scored 12 points, all in the second half for the Cardinals, as a late rally came up short.

It was the first tight ballgame of the season for the Tigers during the 2005-06 campaign and Lake City came up short. For the Tigers, Stu Ekblad led the way with 18 points. Riley Koller added eight points and 13 rebounds, and Eric Denn nailed four treys for 12 points. Jay Stensgard led Lewiston-Altura with 13 points, three assists, and four steals. C.J. Stiever tossed in 12 points for the Cardinals, who improved to 4-6.

The season opening game of the 2002-03 season went to the Tigers. Lake City missed four free throws in the final two minutes, but was able to escape with the win as Ted Stam swatted a shot into the stands as time expired. Quinn Sweeney and Nolan Krause scored eight points each to pace the Tigers. Sweeney added eight rebounds and helped the Tigers to a 25-20 rebounding advantage.

In the 1990 Sub-Section final, Lake City defeated Lewiston-Altura 49-36. Brett Stolzenberg scored 19 points to pace Lake City, and Tony Heise added 15 points.

Onalaska Luther (3-2) vs. Lake City (1-3)

The Lake City Tigers return from a week hiatus to compete in the 2007 Lewiston Auto Warrior Club Holiday Tournament. Tip-off against Onalaska Luther is slated for 1:30 p.m. in McCown Gymnasium on the campus of Winona State University.

Lake City notes: The Tigers are currently on a three game losing skid. The latest loss was a 51-50 heartbreaker to Cannon Falls. The Bombers’ Ryan Underdahl scored on put-back with three seconds remaining for the win. Junior Austin Gilles recorded his third double-double of the season, scoring 17 points and grabbing 10 rebounds to pace the Tigers. Sophomore Drew Swanson netted eight points. Senior Josh Roach notched seven points and pulled down nine rebounds.

Onalaska Luther notes: The Wisconsin-based Knights, under the direction of Mark Loersch, are off to a 3-2 start this season. The Knights have dropped their first two decisions in Coulee Conference. Leading the way is Senior Alex Kohlmeier, who averages 12 points per game and six rebounds per game. Senior Trent Traxler averages 12.2 points per game and also grabs 4.8 rebounds per game. Freshman point guard Joey Leibl is averaging 6.2 points per game and 5.8 assists per game.

In our last meeting: This is the first meeting between the Tigers and the Knights.

At the Warrior Club Holiday Tournament: The Tigers are making their 8th appearance in the tournament. Lake City has won the tournament championship once, during the 2004-05 season when they defeated Spring Grove 47-39 and Rochester Lourdes 38-34. The Tigers own a 5-9 ledger overall at the tournament.

What's ahead: Lake City will face Lewiston-Altura on Friday, December 28 at 3:45 p.m. in Talbot Gymnasium to conclude tournament play.

Game 4
Cannon Falls (1-3) @ Lake City (1-2)

Date: Tuesday, December 18

Lake City will open HVL Blue Division play against the Cannon Falls Bombers. Both teams have struggled to find their groove early in the 2007-08 season. Since 1970, the teams have met 70 times, with Lake City holding a commanding 53-17 advantage in the series.

Lake City notes: The Tigers are coming off a 58-50 set back at the hands of Stewartville on Friday night. Lake City out-rebounded Stewartville 44-22, but shot only 35 percent from the floor. Senior Joe Klennert led the way for Lake City with 18 points and nine rebounds. Junior Austin Gilles recorded his second double-double of the season, notching 12 points and grabbing 11 rebounds.

Cannon Falls notes: The Bombers suffered a heartbreaking 57-56 loss at home to Rochester Lourdes on Friday. The Eagles made one free throw at the buzzer to clinch the win. Cannon Falls is led by head Coach Chip Callister. The Bombers, traditionally a fast-breaking team, are led by sophomores Isaac Peterson and Michael Banitt. Peterson has already scored over 20 points twice this season, including a 25 point effort in a loss to Byron.

Lake City swept the season series with the Bombers, despite trailing 22-20 at halftime. Nick Moyer led the Tigers with 13 points and nine rebounds. Joe Klennert scored all 12 of his points in the first half for Lake City. Austin Gilles also reached double figures, scoring 11 points. For the Bombers, Isaac Peterson tallied 13 points.

The 1970's: The Tigers success on the court in the 1970’s parlayed into a 17 game winning streak against Cannon Falls between 1973 and 1981. The streak was highlighted by a 74-18 Tigers victory during the 1978-79 season. Randy Breuer scored 25 points and Pat Kennedy added 13.

Home Court Advantage: Since 1970, Lake City holds a 27-6 record on its home floor against the Bombers. The last Cannon Falls victory in Lake City came in 2002, when the Bombers prevailed 70-57.

What's ahead: The Tigers take a week off before competing in the Winona State Holiday Tournament. Lake City will face Onalska Luther (Wis.) on Wednesday, December 26 at 1:30 p.m. The Tigers will then square off against Lewiston-Altura on Friday, December 28 at 3:45 p.m.

Game 3
Stewartville (3-0) @ Lake City (1-1)

Date: Friday, December 14

It’s a battle of the Tigers on Friday night when Lake City returns home to face unbeaten Stewartville. Since 1970, the teams have met 61 times, with Lake City holding the series edge 39-22. There have been two playoff match-ups in the series with Lake City prevailing both times (1987-88, 1989-90).

Lake City notes: Lake City is coming off a disappointing 55-44 setback on Tuesday to Rochester Lourdes. The Tigers trailed at halftime 23-20, and the game remained close in the second half. Lake City faltered down the stretch and the Eagles sealed the victory with some timely baskets. Austin Gilles posted a double-double for Lake City, scoring 14 points and grabbing 11 rebounds. Joe Klennert added 10 points.

Stewartville notes: Stewartville has started the season with three wins, including Tuesday’s 49-46 triumph over Goodhue. The Tigers trailed by 12 points in the second half before rallying for the victory. Tony Tuseth directs the Tigers, who figure to be in the running for the HVL Gold Division championship this season. Stewartville’s front line is one of the best in the conference. Steve Nosbisch, a 6’6” center and Tom Gisler, a 6’4” forward lead the charge. Gisler scored 12 points in a season opening 58-52 win over Lewiston-Altura last week and also scored 12 points Tuesday against Goodhue.

Last Meeting: 2/2/07 Stewartville 52 @ Lake City 51
With the game tied at 51, Dan Smelter was fouled with 6.5 seconds left. Smelter converted one of two free throws and Lake City turned the ball over with 1.5 seconds to play. Nick Moyer then intercepted the inbounds pass and his heave from half court rattled in and out at the buzzer. Moyer and Austin Gilles each scored 15 points to lead Lake City. Tom Gisler posted a double-double for Stewartville, recoding 12 points and 10 rebounds.

Last Lake City Win: 1/14/05 Stewartville 29 @ Lake City 53
Lake City moved to 13-0 with a decisive 53-29 victory. Lake City led at halftime 22-12 and extended the lead to 37-22 at the end of the third quarter, as Mike Dick hit two of his three treys in the quarter. Dick led Lake City with 11 points. Riley Koller added 10 points and seven rebounds, and Eric Gosse netted nine points and had five steals.

At Home: Lake City is 22-9 against Stewartville at home since 1970.

Winning Streak: Lake City posted 8 straight victories against Stewartville in a span stretching from 1992-93 until the 1999-2000 season. Two of the wins (1993 and 1996) came by just two points.

The Game That Would Never End:
1/17/03 Lake City 55 @ Stewartville 57 (4 OT)
In a game that lasted nearly two and a half hours, Stewartville prevailed by two points at home. The game was largely decided at the free throw line, with Lake City making just 6 of 19 attempts, including four of ten in the overtime sessions. Stewartville made 17 of 23 attempts in the game, and made 12 of 15 in the overtime sessions. Tyler Yotter scored a career-high 17 points for Lake City and Brent Sexton added 16 points.

What's ahead: Lake City will host Cannon Falls on Tuesday, in the first HVL Conference Blue Division game for both teams.

Game 2
Lake City (1-0) @ Rochester Lourdes (1-1)

Date: Tuesday, December 11

The Lake City Tigers will hit the road for the first time this season and visit the Rochester Lourdes Eagles. This will be the 51st all time meeting between the two squads. The Eagles hold a 28-22 advantage in the series. The teams have met eight times in post season play, with each team winning four times.

Lake City notes: Lake City is fresh off a season opening 75-40 win over Wabasha-Kellogg on Saturday night. The Tigers jumped to a 20-2 advantage early and never looked back, allowing everyone on the roster to see the floor. Drew Swanson had 15 points and nine rebounds to lead the Tiger attack, while Austin Gilles added 14 points and seven rebounds.

Rochester Lourdes notes: The Eagles are coming off a 58-55 setback to defending Class AA champion Holy Family on Saturday. The Eagles led 31-21 at halftime, but couldn’t hold on. Jim Daily is in his fourth year at the helm of the Lourdes program and has compiled a 57-24 mark in his first three seasons. Senior Tom Gores leads the Eagles squad this season. Gores has exploded for 23 and 25 points in the first two contests of the season.

Last Meeting: 1/19/07 Rochester Lourdes 55 @ Lake City 50
Tom Gores scored 22 points and Dan Lose added 11 as the Eagles held off the Tigers in Lake City. Josh Roach scored 14 points and grabbed seven rebounds to pace Lake City. The Eagles hit 23 of 32 free throw attempts compared to a 12 of 22 performance at the charity stripe for the Tigers.

Last Tigers Win: 2/19/05 Rochester Lourdes 46 @ Lake City 48
Lake City completed a perfect 17-0 record in the Hiawatha Valley League claiming the conference championship. Quinn Sweeney scored the game winner on a put-back at the buzzer. Sweeney scored 15 points and had nine rebounds to lead the Tigers. Alex Borgschatz added 13 points.

At Alumni Hall: Lake City has a 5-14 all time record in games played at Alumni Hall, with the last victory coming in 2004, when the Tigers prevailed 40-34.

Historical Significance: The Eagles handed Lake City their only two losses during the Tigers 1989-1990 State Championship season. Lourdes won 49-42 in Rochester and then won 46-43 at Lake City. Two meetings during the 1987-88 season went to double overtime, with the Tigers posting a victory in each contest.

What's ahead: Lake City will welcome Stewartville on Friday in the battle of the Tigers. Stewartville started the season with two wins at the Lewiston-Altura Invitational.

Game 1
Wabasha-Kellogg (0-1) @ Lake City (0-0)

Date: Saturday, December 8

The Lake City Tigers will open the 2007-08 campaign against the Wabasha-Kellogg Falcons, who will be playing their second game in as many nights. The Falcons opened the season Friday night losing 85-40 to Plainview/Elgin-Millville.

Lake City notes: The Tigers will look to rebound from the 2006-07 season, where they went 8-16 overall and 6-10 in conference play. Things are looking up for the Tigers, as they return four starters. Senior Jordan Schumacher (4.0 ppg, 3.0 apg) starting his third varsity season, will direct the squad at point guard. Junior Austin Gilles (8.6 ppg, 6.0 rpg) and senior Josh Roach (8.7 ppg, 6.0 rpg) will anchor the front line for Lake City. Senior Indy Liljevall (3.0 ppg, 3.1 rpg, 2.3 spg) returns at the other guard position. Team depth should be improved this year, as the Tigers will look for contributions from a junior class that went 18-5 a year ago. Shawn Sweeney begins his third year at the helm of the Lake City boys program. Sweeney has compiled a 15-32 record in his first two seasons with the boys team. Sweeney directed the girls program for 21 seasons before joining the boys program in 2001.

Wabasha-Kellogg notes: The Falcons, under the direction of Rick Peterson, are coming off a 2006-07 campaign where they went 7-17. They nearly upset second seeded Caledonia in the first round of Section 1AA play, falling 53-50. Senior Kyle Sill returns for his third year and will look to lead the Falcons this season. Lake City kept Sill in check last season, limiting him to two points on 1 of 7 shooting.

Last Meeting: 2/6/07 Lake City 56 @ Wabasha-Kellogg 37

Nick Moyer scored 12 of his game-high 18 points in the first half on 6 of 7 shooting, helping the Tigers open up a 30-16 halftime lead. Matt Fick added seven of his nine points in the 2nd half as the Tigers were victorious 56-37. Lake City held a 50-32 rebounding advantage over the Falcons and forced 20 turnovers. Mike Halverson led the Falcons with 14 points.

Last 10 Meetings: The Tigers have won 10 contests in a row against the Falcons, dating back to the 1997-1998 season. The last Wabasha-Kellogg win came in the 1996-97 season opener at Lake City, a 55-50 triumph for the Falcons.

Home Openers: The Tigers will play their home opener against the Falcons for the fifth time in the last 10 years. The Tigers are 13-4 in home openers since 1990. Before last years 80-46 setback to St. Anthony Village, the Tigers had won six straight season openers at home.

What’s ahead: Lake City will face two big early season tests next week. On Tuesday, the Tigers will travel to Alumni Hall to face the Rochester Lourdes Eagles, coming off a season opening 53-38 win over Waseca. The Tigers will then return home to host Stewartville on Friday night.
